Google Tech Talks May, 12 2008 ABSTRACT Google will be hosting Dong Hyuk Shin, a 26-year-old North Korean defector born and raised in a concentration camp. Shin was born on Nov. 19, 1982 and called the camp home until 2005. While at the camp, he endured daily beatings, torture, starvation-level rations, saw forced abortions and even witnessed the public execution of his mother and brother in 1996. Shin described his life of total isolation from the world: “In South Korea, although there is disappointment and sadness, there is also so much joy, happiness and comfort. In Kaechon, I did not even know such emotions existed. The only emotion I ever knew was fear: fear of beatings, fear of starvation, fear of torture and fear of death.” LiNK’s Executive Director Adrian Hong will brief the audience on the broader issue of human rights in North Korea, as well as the current refugee situation and what can be done to help. Liberty in North Korea, or LiNK, is an international non-governmental organization devoted to human rights in North Korea and the protection of North Korean refugees. This talk will be taped. This is so sad. I think he is in more emotional pain after he left. Before he thought that it was normal what was happening to him, after he left he realized that it is not the norm. and there for caused more emotional pain. For him to say that he was in shock how much more “free” people in North Korea were than the camps than he was in is insane.

The world needs to make a stand against this scum regime, north korea can only and will only be liberated from outside inshallah. Operation liberation north needs to be established. Wow as a Muslim i am disgusted these people have no knowledge, no unity and are deprived of everything we taken for granted from food, to knowledge to a social life and to justice e.t.c. What makes it difficult to overthrow this government is the fact that they have a very good infrastructure in place to control the peoples minds and the people due to their deprivation of knowledge and other things don’t sadly know better. the legitimacy of that statement is null and void due to there being no actual evidence to back it up. What we DO have proof of is that North koreans abduct South Koreans. That alone is enough to warrant reason enough to why North Korea is not a place you would want to live in.

@dongsoola Are you sane? There wasn’t only one refugee from North Korea. There are thousands of refugees that try to leave country, but most of them are sent back and put to concentration camps or executed. It is true that after war there were a lot of people who came to north affected by propaganda. But is there such cases now? 200000 people are kept in gulags, people starving to death, disabled newborns are killed, and hundreds of homeless children wandering in the streets. That’s reality.

When Kim Jong Il dies, his son will take his place and so on. I don’t think that it will be over in a long time. Poeple that live there take him as a god so it’s uncertain that even the public will adapt. Hopefully they will. Best of luck to them and hope that they realise what real freedom is.
