Is there a way that I can increase my reading speed while still maintaining comprehension? I feel like my current speed of about 159 words per minute as a 16 year old is somewhat slow, which is odd since I happen to be considerably smart other wise. Also I’m not thoroughly convinced that something such a speed reading course would work, but correct me if I am incorrect.

Practice reading! Read everyday, but not all the time. Time yourself and just PRACTICE! :)

Well to be honest, I really don’t get the point of speed reading. But you know, only practice can make you faster!!! :)

Read outloud…read more!

159 is slow. Most people read from 200 to 300 words per minute. Practice is not the answer. If you are practicing the wrong way then doing more of the wrong thing will never help you improve.

There are two types of speed reading courses, one is marketing junk and the other is a legitimate course that actually teaches speed reading. You may have seen the TV infomercials for a program called Eyeq, that is marketing junk. There is another program called Speed Reader-X that actually teaches speed reading. They also have a free 45 minute video course that I will link to below. I think it will help you but it will take practice.
