Try various learning modes to keep things interesting and different. For instance, you can listen to your test prep using a website called YAKiToMe! http://www.yakitome.com. You can make your own oral tests out of any electronic text and it might help in your studies.
It is great that you recognize the value of these skills in 8th grade. Some people don’t realize this until they are college seniors looking at bleak prospects of getting into a graduate school of any kind. I am certain that you know many test preparation techniques, organization and time management recommendations already. Be attentive in class, complete your assignments, focus, plan in advance, read, re-read, and similar. There are also many resources on-line and in bookstores. However, motivation is the key. You wrote that your dad wants you to have high grades. Why do you think this is? Do you think what he wants for you is something you’d like for yourself as well? If yes, then that is great and please do take some credit for personally being interested in your own future success. If not, then perhaps this is something you should look into before employing any study techniques. If you are not motivated to learn, no study advice will help.
Good luck!
